Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Undertake personal safety preparation
  2. Personal protective clothing and equipment appropriate to dealing with the hazard is selected, worn and/or fitted and used, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and manufacturers' guidelines
  3. Water and food requirements are identified and stowed on the vehicle
  4. En route rest and shelter areas are identified
  5. Survival techniques and/or strategies are implemented, in accordance with organisational policies and guidelines
  6. Prepare over-snow vehicle for operation
  7. Engine is started, in accordance with manufacturers' specifications
  8. Instruments and gauges are checked to ensure all are operational
  9. Pre-use checks of over-snow trailer are completed, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and manufacturers' specifications
  10. Operate over-snow vehicle
  11. Passengers are briefed on safety and objectives of the trip
  12. Vehicle movement is controlled in response to external conditions to ensure personal safety
  13. Vehicle is operated, in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and regulations
  14. Low risk manoeuvring techniques are used to minimise the likelihood of injury and damage to equipment or property, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
  15. Recovery of vehicle techniques are used to minimise the likelihood of injury to personnel and equipment, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
  16. Navigate to destination and monitor terrain
  17. Potential access restrictions which may limit thoroughfare are identified and arrangements are made to gain access, in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  18. Environmental conditions are consistently monitored and acted upon to enable safe operation and to ensure no injury to personnel or damage to property or equipment
  19. Clean, maintain and stow vehicle
  20. Vehicle and equipment records are updated, in accordance with organisational procedures
  21. Faulty equipment is identified, recorded and reported for repair, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
